Fetus experiences dream-like states during seventh month in womb – research

A group of mathematicians and neuroscientists believe that a developing fetus in a woman’s womb experience dream-like state starting on its seventh month of development.

According to their research, the brain of the embryo alternates every twenty to forty minutes between rapid eye movement (REM) sleep.

However, the researchers stressed that measuring the brain activity of fetuses directly at this point is impossible. Mathematician Karin Schwab said that current technology could still not measure the brain activities directly.

The group, which hails from Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, Germany, conducted the study using sheep. Sheep carries one or two fetuses that are similar in weight and size to a human fetus. They recorded the brain’s electrical activity of a 3-month sheep fetus directly. They have yet to make a conclusion if these findings are similar to human fetuses.

Schwab said: “Sleep does not suddenly evolve from a resting brain. Sleep and sleep state changes are active regulated processes.”

Research on brain development is deemed important since it could provide clues about neurological disorders that occur to some people later in light. Having a more comprehensive understanding of the brain development could lead to cure.

The group’s research was published in Chaos – a publication by AIP (American Institute of Physics).

Dream interpreters gather in Oklahoma

A group of teachers and students from the Oklahoma City School of Metaphysics recently visited the Jacobson House Native Art Center to assist people in dream interpretation. It is common knowledge that all people experience having dreams but never quite understanding the meaning of it.

Oklahoma City School of Metaphysics professor Doug Banister stated in an interview with local media that dreams usually give the person an insight in his or her life. He stressed that these should not be ignored because they are meaningful regardless of what those images are. He cited an example wherein dreams about clothes usually mean a person’s way of expressing himself while hands represent life’s purpose.

The group had a great time at the center and the activity lasted for the entire day. Aside from that, a group of artists were also present to paint out the images of common dreams while the school’s students discuss to the visitors the meaning of each.

The event was part of the national Dream Awareness Weekend, a regular activity conducted by the school. In the past, dream interpretations were usually done over the phone but organizers thought that it’s time to take things to another level.

Consistent bedtime routines aid in getting sweet dreams for kids. This was revealed on a study conducted by Dr. Jodi Mindell of Philadelphia’s Saint Joseph University.

Mindell followed the routines of more than four hundred mothers. About fifty percent of the mothers have kids ages seven to eighteen months while the remaining fifty are for mothers with kids ages eighteen to thirty-six months old.dreams

The bedtime routine include a 30-minute ritual that include a bath, massage, other restful activities such as telling the kids some good bedtime stories. Results revealed that these kids slept more soundly and woke less often in the middle of the night. In the toddlers group, most wake up on a better mood.

The kids’ good mood also affects the mothers’ behavior as well since they’ll also have a great day free of stressful crying for kids.

It’s been a longtime advice for parents to have regular nighttime routine for their kids. This time, the study proves there are benefits from doing this.

Better sleep means better dreams for kids. The results of the study also give a message for parents to set time for their kids at this early stage in order to build a bond.
